Logging in

Before the Showjumping begins you will receive a tablet and a 6 digit PIN which is unique to the event and your role as a Showjumping Judge and penciller. Use this PIN to log in. If you need to swap to a different device you can log back in using your PIN.

Class Screen

When you first log in it is possible that no course plans will have been set up yet and the screen will look like this.

To set up a course plan touch the course plans button.

If the Course Designer has already set up the course plans then you can begin SJ by touching any class name.

Course Plans

This screen shows the current course plans. You can set up a course plan for each level and even each division (It is rare that different divisions would use different course plans but the option is here just in case). To create or edit a course plan touch the pencil icon. If there is only 1 division for a level then the course plan for that level will be automatically assigned. If there are multiple divisions for a level then you will need to select which course plan is being used for each division by touching the select button and then selecting the course plan you wish to use. The time on course can be set to different values for each division on this screen by touching the time on course.

Course Plan - Set Up

There are 5 steps to setting up a course plan

1. Give the plan a name. It is best to keep it simple and often the level name will suffice.

2. How many obstacles are in the course. Start/Finish and successive elements are not obstacles and are added in step 3. The minimum and maximum obstacles listed are set by the association for that level. However, you can type in any number in this field if required.

3. Most SJ courses will have obstacles with multiple efforts. To add these in first touch on the obstacle where they occur and then touch + Combination. You can add multiple efforts and you can also remove efforts.

Changing the code for an obstacle will change its number. This would only be needed in very rare situations where you don't want the jump numbers to be in sequential order or you want to change the obstacle to be 14ab. For example perhaps obstacle 6 has become unsafe and has been removed from the course. You can then renumber the remaining obstacles to skip number 6.

You can name each SJ effort. This can make it easier to remember which jump is the dazzleboard for example. However, it is not required to give every jump a name.

4. Enter the course distance in metres. The minimum and maximum distances listed are set by the association for that level. However, you can type in any distance in this field if required.

5. The system will automatically calculate the time on course based on the distance entered in step 4 and the rate for that level. If required you can override this calculation by touching override time. You can then set your own time.

Once you have completed the 5 set up steps you can then touch save to save your course plan and then return to either the plans screen or classes screen.

Return to Class Screen

Once you have set up the course plan you can then select a class from the class screen. In this scenario we are judging the Level 5 class.

SJ Judging - Start Rider

When a rider arrives in the ring you can either select them from the list on the left hand side or enter their number in the box on the top left.

When the rider passes through the start flags you can either touch the Clear or Start button to begin the timer.

When the rider clears a jump you can touch the Clear button.

SJ Judging - Penalties

If a rider has a penalty you can touch the button for the corresponding penalty. In this case the rider has had a Knockdown at Jump 3.

Giving a Knockdown will move the cursor to the next jump.

Giving a Refusal will keep the cursor at the same jump. If a rider has multiple refusals at the one jump you can touch the Refusal button multiple times.

Add 6s will cause the timer to pause while you re-build the jump

Touching the Elimination button will display a list of reasons why the rider was eliminated. Eliminating a rider does not stop the timer by default in case it was a mistake. Note: These reasons will be different based on whether the rider is at the Start, Finish or on Course.

Touching the Retired button will Retire the rider and stop the timer.

SJ Judging - Finish Rider

When a rider crosses the finish line you can press the Clear button and this will stop the timer. In this case you can see the rider finished the course in 38.22 seconds. You can alter the recorded time by touching the clipboard icon next to the time.

Once the rider has completed the course you can touch the Sign Off button to upload their results. If you are not ready to Sign Off the rider, (perhaps you need to check with the TD) then you can touch the save button to Save the results without publishing them.

If you have made an error you can completely clear the scores by touching the clear button.

You cannot move on to the next rider until you either Sign Off, Save or Clear the rider's scores.

If you look at the list of riders on the left side riders who have been Signed Off are highlighted Green while those who have been saved are highlighted Orange. Make sure to go back and Sign Off all riders before the class is completed.

SJ Judging - Comment

If you are unsure as to whether a rider was clear or have any concerns regarding dangerous riding you can leave a comment by touching the comment button. This will bring up the comment field. You can use your finger to draw the path the rider took and/or swap to text mode by selecting "A" to write a comment. If you want to clear the comment field you can touch the recycle symbol.

Fence Analysis

Once the class is complete you may want to look at the class results overall. To do this touch the Fence Analysis button. This will show the matrix of riders and penalties at each fence.
