What is an extension?

An extension is a question you want to ask to riders regarding their online entry. For example if a rider is entering a Dressage Protocol day you might ask them which Dressage Test they plan to ride.

Where are extensions located?

On the Manage Page click Event Details. There is a button for extensions under the blue Save button.

Creating an extension

Extensions can be added to different parts of the online entry depending on the question. For example if I want to know the Rider's age I would add the Extension to the Rider section of the online entry.

To create an extension first select what part of the entry you want to add the extension to and then click the plus icon.

The first field in the extension is the label field. This is where you ask the question. You can follow this up with further information in the Note field if requried. Generally you want to try to keep the Label fairly short.

You also need to select an Extension type which affects how riders can answer the question.

  1. Text - Riders can freely write any amount of text. This is ideal for questions where there is no set answers. For example "What have you been working on with your horse?"
  2. True/False - Riders can select True or False. This is ideal for questions with a Yes/No answer. For example "Do you have a Clydesdale?"
  3. List - Riders can select from a predefined list of answers. This is ideal for questions where there are several set answers. For example "What is your Horse Trials Grade?"
  4. Single - There is only one answer which is automatically applied. This is used to add specific costs to the online entry. For example at FEI Horse Trials there is a swab fee which is applied to 2*-4* entries but is separate to the entry fee. The single extension allows you to add a mandatory cost to these classes.

Extensions can be set to be Required or Not Required. If you want all riders to answer the question then set Required to Yes.

Field Size should be set to Maximum for all extensions

Pricing can be added to extensions if specific answers have a cost involved. For example at a Freshman Showjumping event you may be able to add a number of Rounds of SJ with a specific cost for each round.

How to add extensions onto the online entry and make them active

Rider and Horse extensions will be automatically added onto the online entry and are always active.

Competition and Competition Class extensions need to be manually added to the competition or class as you may only want the extension on specific competitions or classes.

To add a competition extension go to Event Details->Select the Competition. Expand the Extension box. Select the extension you wish to add.

To add a competition class extension go to Event Details->Select the class. Expand the Extension box. Select the extension you wish to add.

You can add multiple extensions to competitions and classes.

Warning! You need to be careful about adding the same extension to multiple classes. An extension can only have a single answer for each combination. So if you are running a Freshman SJ and put "How many Rounds?" on every height then the system will only record the answer for the first height if a rider enters multiple heights. In this case you need to create an extension for each height. E.g How many rounds at 30cm, How many rounds at 40cm etc. This is not an issue if riders can only enter a single class in the competition though.

Product Family and Product Extensions can be manually added in the Product Section

Where to find extension answers?

After riders have entered the event you can find the extension answers in the Entries Download spreadsheet or on the rider's details depending on where the extension was added. For example a horse extension will be found under horse event details while a product extension will be found under order details
