Class Selection

This screen shows all of the XC classes for the event as well as the time they are scheduled to start and finish. Touch a class to begin the XC Start for that class..

XC Start

After touching a class it will then go to the XC Start screen. This screen lists all the riders for the level in number order.

All riders for the level will include riders from multiple divisions but also riders from different classes that have the same level. Examples of this are Pony Club Grade 3 and Open Grade 3 or CCN 1* and Young Rider CCN1*.

Ideally riders should be started draw this order. When a rider is ready to go touch that rider's name and the timer will then begin counting down to their start time on the next full minute - note the timer is "real time". Alternatively you can use the search box to search for a particular back number.

Status of riders

Riders who have been scratched will appear with a strike through.

Riders with Multiple horses will have an asterix (*) after the riders' name.

Riders who have been eliminated or have retired during a previous phase (Dressage or Showjumping) may wish to participate in the XC phase but will need to seek TD approval to do so.

How to select a rider to start

It is always best to start riders in number order as per the draw.

You can either type the number of the next rider in the Box and then the Rider Name and Horse Name will appear alongside the box. OR You can select the rider from the class list on the left of the screen.

How to start a rider

In the example below rider number 200 has been selected as the next rider to start. The countdown timer shows they have 50 seconds until they will start at 11:17:00am.(real time)

When the countdown timer reaches 30 seconds "to go" it will make 3 beeps.

When it reaches 20 seconds "to go" it will make 2 beeps.

When it reaches 10 seconds "to go" if will make 1 beep.

When it reaches 5 seconds "to go" it will make a beep every second.

When it reaches 0 seconds it will make a different sounding higher pitched beep the rider will start, and the countdown will then stay at 0:00.

If the rider left at this time then you can touch the save button to save their start time. You will be unable to change to another rider until you either save their time or clear their time, if for any reason they did not start.

When a rider has successfully started and you have saved their time, their name will be highlighted in yellow on the left of your screen. You can then select the next rider It is always preferable to start riders in number order. The countdown will recommence once you have selected the next rider.

When a rider is selected you will notice that in the top right hand corner of the screen you will be able to see the Time allowed, Distance and Speed of the course for this class.

What if the rider doesn't leave at that time?

Most riders are started in XC without incident however things don't always go according to plan.

If the rider is unable to start on that minute due to a disruption of some sort then you can touch the plus symbol next to the start time. This will add a minute to the start time so the rider can start on the next whole minute. You can touch it multiple times to add multiple minutes to the start time or touch the minus symbol to deduct minutes (useful when riders are being started at 2 or 3 minute intervals).

What if the course is held?

If the course was held for any length of time, when you are ready to "restart" the course you can press "clear" to catch up to the current time.

What if the rider leaves the start box early?

If the rider left the start box before the countdown reaches 0:00 you can touch the "left early" button. This will set the start time at the time you touched the left early button. You can edit this time using the pencil icon if required. When applicable (for certain associations) any penalty for leaving early will also be applied.

How to eliminate or withdraw a rider at the start

Riders can be eliminated at the start box. In this case touch the elimination button and select the applicable reason and then touch Save. If the rider changes their mind once in the box and decides they will not ride the Cross Country phase this would be considered as a rider withdrawing and you would touch the Withdrawal button.

What if you are notified that a rider is not going to start?

If you receive information that a rider has decided to withdraw from the event and will not be completing XC then you can touch the withdrawal button. This will withdraw the rider from the competition. Note: You can't then unwithdraw the rider so only do this if you are confident the rider will not be completing XC.

What if a rider appears at the Cross Country Start to ride but they have been scratched, withdrawn, retired or eliminated?

If a scratched, withdrawn, retired or eliminated rider does arrive wanting to ride the XC phase you will need to contact the office/TD to ensure that they have permission to complete the cross country phase. The office/TD will then need to adjust so you are able to start the rider if permission is given.

What if something unusual occurs with a rider?

You can leave a comment on a rider by touching the comment button. This will provide a field to draw diagrams or write notes regarding a rider.

When there are no more riders at this level/grade.

If you have completed all riders for this level/grade you can return to the menu by touching on the Classes button. You will then return to the page below and will be able to select the next level/grade.
